BFI’s contributions as a partner in the AMIGDALA project

This interview highlights BFI’s contributions as a partner in the AMIGDALA project. BFI focuses on integrating sector-specific data into environmental models that are essential for assessing decarbonization pathways. The organization is responsible for continuously updating these datasets, ensuring they reflect the latest industry practices and technological advancements, thereby maintaining the accuracy and reliability of the models. Read more about their contributions in the full article by Frank Mintus.

  1. What is the primary focus of BFI in the AMIGDALA project?

BFI’s primary focus in the AMIGDALA project is to provide specialized data and expertise related to the steel industry. This involves integrating the steel sector into environmental models for assessing decarbonization pathways. BFI also conducts thorough literature reviews and identifies relevant technological alternatives for reducing carbon emissions, ensuring that the datasets used for evaluating and implementing decarbonization strategies are comprehensive and up to date.

  1. How is BFI contributing to the continuous updating of datasets for the AMIGDALA project, and why is it important to validate these datasets with historical data and stakeholder input?

BFI frequently updates the datasets within the AMIGDALA project to ensure they capture the latest industry practices and relevant technological innovations. This data is crucial for refining the integrated models that simulate decarbonization pathways. By incorporating the most current data, these models become more accurate and reflective of real-world scenarios. Within the consortium this data is used to validate the models against historical data. This validation process is essential as it provides a proof of concept or proof of functionality, allowing forecasts to be checked against actual outcomes. This ensures the models are reliable and effective tools for guiding the steel industry in making informed decisions about decarbonization and sustainability.

  1. Can you explain how BFI’s work on connecting the data explorer to the online dashboard will help industries access and use data more effectively for decision-making, particularly regarding energy use, emissions, and recycling?

By connecting the data explorer to the online dashboard, industry and policy stakeholders gain direct access to the integrated model and its underlying data. This connection allows users to set control options and performance indicators, such as critical metrics like energy consumption, emissions, and recycling rates. Stakeholders can tailor these parameters according to their own decision frameworks by applying specific weights to each metric. This customization enables them to explore decarbonization pathways that are aligned with their unique preferences and goals. Through interactive data visualization and analysis, stakeholders are empowered to make informed decisions that support their sustainability objectives.
