AMIGDALA Showcased at the ERA Action 16 Workshop in Brussels

Frank Wubbolts, AMIGDALA Project Coordinator, presented the project’s latest developments at the ERA Action 16 Workshop, held on 28 November at the European Commission premises in Brussels. The event gathered policymakers, experts, and representatives from EU-funded initiatives to exchange insights on strengthening coordination within the European Research Area.

AMIGDALA integrates advanced modelling, scenario development, and decision-analysis to assess transformation pathways across energy-intensive sectors. Its modelling framework captures the full system: product demand, international trade flows, energy generation, materials circularity, and production from both soil-based and fossil resources. This holistic approach enables policymakers to evaluate how different technological, economic, and policy choices influence Europe’s long-term industrial sustainability.

During the presentation, Frank shared interim results from the project’s proof-of-concept work on the plastics sector. The analysis offers early insights into circularity measures, material flows, and industry responses under different transition scenarios.

The presentation also outlined how the AMIGDALA framework can be scaled and replicated across other industrial sectors, supporting a robust evidence base for the EU’s climate and industrial strategies.
