Webinar Recording Available: Scenario Narratives for Europe’s Process Industry

Europe’s energy-intensive industries, including chemicals, refining, steel, cement and glass, underwent significant structural change. In just three years, announced closures reached almost 10% of European chemical production capacity, while other sectors faced similar pressures. This raised a practical question for policy makers and industrial decision makers alike: what plausible futures should be considered when thinking about competitiveness, Net Zero and European autonomy?

The AMIGDALA Project supported decision makers in governments and industry in defining and evaluating pathways towards circular, climate-neutral and competitive European industries. Within this broader effort, AMIGDALA developed a set of scenario narratives that served as structured inputs for its modelling work, rather than forecasts or ready-made policy answers.

On 5 May, AMIGDALA hosted a webinar to present and discuss these scenario narratives for the future of the European process industry. The session gathered around 40 participants online.

The webinar featured presentations from Joel Neave (Deloitte) and Wouter Nijs (VITO). The session served as an introduction to AMIGDALA’s scenario work, making the underlying assumptions and choices transparent while opening the door for further dialogue.
